Cat (Pet) Tips for a Safe Halloween

While Halloween is fun for adults and children alike, it can cause distress for your cat. Cats have no idea what Halloween is and the costumes, decorations and constant bell ringing and door knocking can leave them scared and confused.  With that in mind, I have provided a few tips so that on the day after Halloween, you are not filled with regrets.

Keep all candy out of your pet’s reach.  Chocolate and other candy may be poisonous to your cat when ingested.  Small hard candy may also pose a choking hazard.

Cellophane candy wrapper and treat bags can cause choking or blockage of your cat’s digestive tract when eaten.  So collect them from children and throw them away immediately.

Make sure your cat is in a quiet safe place when opening the door to trick-or-treaters.   You don’t want her to get spooked or run out the door into the night.  Make sure your pet is wearing proper ID tags (just in case).

Please replace wax candles with flashlights or battery-powered candles in Jack-o’-lanterns.  This will prevent your curious cat from getting her nose burnt or her whiskers singed.

Secure wires and electrical cords from decorations so that your cat does not get tangled in them or chew on them.

If you insist on putting a costume on your cat, then please make sure that her vision is not blocked, her movement is not restrained and her breathing is not obstructed.

Please keep all your pets inside so that they do not become the victim of pranks.  (This is especially true if you have a black cat).

About the Author

Momo and Bunny are our two cats (they asked that we not use their real names). Both were rescued from the streets of Brooklyn, NY and now live in the idyllic hills of the lower Hudson Valley, NY. Momo is a ginger and white long haired-bushy tailed guy with a will of steel and a vengeful streak. Bunny is a stubborn little multicolored short haired domestic girl who loves butterflies and helping me water the plants. Both, to their chagrin, are now indoor-only cats. While both Momo and Bunny love my husband, they are both mommy’s cats. In fact, because I rescued Momo 6 years before I got married, Momo thought he was the only man in my life and did not take it well when he realized that my husband was here to stay. Bunny, on the other hand does not mind my husband, but she much prefers my lap to his.

Because our cats have sharp claws and short attention spans, we are always looking for cat scratching posts, perches, beds and toys to keep them occupied. I have been a pretty prolific internet shopper for about 10 years now and as a cat parent, I think our adorable fluff balls are a little neglected both online and at brick and mortar stores. Yes, I am seeing a lot more cat products online than I used to; however, canine products are far more prevalent. I am always looking for useful and fun products for my little ones.

We intend to look for the best quality and most entertaining cat scratching posts, cat perches, cat beds and cat toys. We are also open to input from our very valuable customers so feel free to make suggestions on which products or category of products you would like to see us carry.

Six Cats In My Kitchen

Six Cats In My Kitchen

$0.99

As I say on the first page, very first line, this is not a “cute kitty” book. I started out to create just that, but my cast of characters swiftly dug in their claws, insisting I tell their true story. Consequently, this comedy/drama turned out to be a very personal memoir. Six special cats are still the headline-grabbing stars of the show, but their human companions (my family) fill pivotal s…
